  • Kat warily made her way to the couch and sat on the edge. Linda's voice held that too-happy edge that made Kat nervous. Very nervous.

    "Promise you won't kill me and that you'll love me forever."

    Kat narrowed her eyes. "What did you do?"

    "Just promise."

    "Are you going to leave if I don't?"

    Linda shook her head. "Nope."

    "Oh, all right. I promise. Now, what's up?"

    Linda bit her lip and handed Kat a sheaf of papers.

    Reluctantly, Kat glanced down and began to read.

    I was the tall brunette with the bib number 103. You ran across the finish line with me and placed a medal around my neck. Your name is Eric. You were incredibly hot. I'd like to share a drink with you, maybe more.

    Kat's eyes bugged. "Oh no. Please, no. Linda…"

    "Shut up and read the next one."

    She reluctantly flipped the sheet of paper.

    Hi. I'm Eric Thompson. The race director of the Ann Arbor Classic and owner of Running Love. I'd love to have a drink with you sometime. I thought about calling, but I worried it might be a misuse of your race form. Just let me know when and where, Kat with a K.
